Um die Energiewende voranzubringen, werden unter anderem mehr Strom- und Wärmespeicher benötigt. Ob Wasser, Stahl oder auch Salz – die Möglichkeiten sind vielfältig.

Aktuell untersucht Vattenfall gemeinsam mit dem schwedischen Unternehmen SaltX Technology im Berliner Heizkraftwerk Reuter, wie gut Salz überschüssigen Strom als Wärme speichern kann. Denn Salz kann bis zu zehnmal mehr Energie aufnehmen als beispielsweise Wasser. Anfang November 2018 begann der Aufbau der ersten von zwei identischen Pilotanlagen, die im Frühjahr 2019 den Betrieb aufnehmen sollen. Die Pilotanlage soll Energie in das Berliner Fernwärmenetz einspeisen.

Das ist schon ein interessantes Thema - bis das aber zur Kommerzialisierung kommt, dauert das sicher noch 5-10 Jahre, aber der europäische Green Deal wird da doch viel Rückenwind bringen. Gut ist, dass nicht nur mit Vattenfall gearbeitet wird:

SaltX in a new industrial pilot project

Nasdaq First North-listed SaltX Technology has signed an MoU agreement (Memorandum of Understanding) with Luleå Energi, LuleKraft and Swerim to build a 1MW and 15MWh pilot plant, which uses nanocoatated salt to store thermal energy. The pilot plant is planned to be built in Luleå and will be charged with residual gas/heat from a nearby industry.
